24 Hours until my first reading: A few reflections

I’m giving my first public reading for “Beauty Rising” tomorrow night.  Here’s what I’m thinking tonight:

1. I am humbled. To have people show up (presumably a few will) to listen to me read from my book is really an honor. When anyone  listens like you have something worth listening to is really quite something.

2. I better be entertaining because I teach O.I. One of the topics I now cover in my Speech and Forensics class is Oral Interpretation – where one person reads from a novel and is supposed to bring it alive through voice characterization and facial expression.  So I shut myself up in my bedroom this evening, practicing how I’m going to read all the characters in my novel. It was quite fun, actually.

3. I think a sore throat and stuffy nose just might make my characters sound better. Here’s hoping!

4. I’m excited to offer my book for sale at a super low rate tomorrow!

5. I hope I don’t stumble over my words. Now I know how my students feel when they are getting ready to give their oral interpretation. Perhaps I should ask them to grade me tomorrow.

6. My wife made orange-carrot cake with an orange glaze to share with those in attendance! Perhaps this will draw in the people better than my book!

7. If you are in Penang, I hope you can come! 7PM at Dalat Library.

Until then!
