As an indie author, any and all promotion is good promotion, and each farthings-worth of promotion has to be painstakingly fought for because of the fierce competition. I’ve used a variety of promotion techniques with my first novel Beauty Rising, and I’ll continue to do so. But at this point, one of the most effective promotion tools I’ve used, (not counting Amazon free day promotions), has been giveaways through Goodreads.
I’ve done two giveaways now. On the first one I offered 5 free books and got a decent amount of entries – though below the Goodreads average. I just finished a second giveaway offering two free copies and the number of entries increased over the first by 25%. I was very pleased with that. On top of this, a couple hundred of the people who entered also added my book to their ‘to-read’ list. Now, I realize a lot of people have huge ‘to-read’ lists, but it is still, in my mind, significant. Excellent exposure that no doubt will result in a number of reads and reviews. I can’t ask for anything more than that.
I was happy to sign a couple of books today and ship on to Sarah in Great Britain and Jennifer in the USA. I hope they both enjoy.
I’m sure I’ll do another Goodreads giveaway at some point. I have nothing to lose and a bunch of exposure to gain.
