This one’s been tough. I’ve been working on novel #14 for the past two years, and since moving back to America, I’ve admittedly not had enough writing time. (Or I haven’t been able to carve it out for some reason or another.) I’m one of those writers who need to hunker down, away from everything, and just let the ideas flow. This novel I’m working on, my longest and perhaps most challenging of my writing career, just hasn’t had the opportunity to get over the hump. I had written parts one and two, but the long-awaited part three just sat as an idea in my mind for the better part of the past year. So when summer hit and I had the time and opportunity, I left the states for greener writing pastures and I’ve been at it now for a week with thrilling results.
I love it when all the parts of the puzzle begin coming together and I finally see what it is I’m trying to say. Yes, sometimes I don’t know what I want to say until the characters begin to reveal themselves to me. But boy, it’s been fun and just this evening I crossed the 100,000 word barrier with about three chapters remaining.
I have a few days left on my writing trip and plan to have the first draft complete before I head home. More info to come, but I wanted to let everyone know that #14 is getting closer by the day. I’m really excited for this one because I think it has many interesting issues to discuss.
Okay, I’ll give you the working title: Tesler and the Burning Bush.
And if you twist my arm, I’ll give you a teaser: A builder decides to deconstruct and disappear. A journalist tracks him down eight years later. He shoots her. This starts everything.
Oh, I wish I could tell you more. There’s so many juicy details in here. Soon!
