Sci-fi, Horror, Superheroes, or Princesses

I looked at the movie line-up at the local cinema, hoping there might be something interesting that would grab my attention. I haven’t been to the movies in a while. But, what a surprise, the headlining shows were the same-old, same-old that Hollywood puts out.

Am I alone? Or does anyone else get tired of the re-tread ideas that keeping coming out of southern California? It’s the same old pattern: sci-fi, horror, superheroes, or princesses.

How about some real human drama? Some exciting adventures that don’t have aliens or monsters? How about some intelligent dialogue and, perhaps, some deep existential mind-twisting?

There seems to be a distinct pattern to what Hollywood thinks America, and the world, can handle. It’s the cheap thrills, the big explosions, the cutesy princess, the evil lurking in the basement.

There is a place for all of these movie genres. I’m not saying they are all bad or that I’ll never go see one – though I don’t ever see horror movies.

But there is such a thing as OVERKILL!

Let’s get creative writers and see what else is out there. There’s a big world to explore.

PS: If a producer out there is reading this and it thinking, “Well, if you think you can do better, let me see”, I would be HAPPY to oblige.
